    How do the prices normalize anyways?
    They obviously go down as those items are sold to places, but do they even out over time as people stop trading in those goods?
    Or does that town have to have an intake of goods from other towns, or what?

    The prices are so bad in Belvast at the moment, and people at low Merchant Rating for Belvast have it extra hard, as they don't have even the 1% discount yet, since that only starts at Merchant level 5.

    Remember Mabi NA is a misnomer; it's really Mabi World-except-for-the-far-east-of-Asia. So someone is always up and there is no overnight for them to recover. The price fluctuations should be tied, dynamically, to the logged-in population rather than being based on fixed values. This is why Tarlach was the best server for commerce.

  • F2P vs P2W / Server-RAM / Archer-Set / Questions

    Server-RAM : More than one forumer has said that you cannot just throw more RAM at the servers and expect to fix the problems. Actually, I say that you can add more, and that it has resolved (some) past-issues, but I might agree that it only resolves things up to a certain extent. The Nexon team did at one point upgrade the servers in the past, and you can «blame» me for prodding them into it, and it actually did (seem to) improve things (for a while). Ultimately, the coding is the root of it all, and once that can be made stable, then the rest becomes easier to manage rather than a debugging nightmare. I also read that Adobe FlashPlayer will be phased out eventually and replaced with some other whatever-it's-called; I say that's been long over-due as Adobe Flash-Player just cannot seem to to avoid Memory Leakage (anybody who has used FlashPlayer-required pages should know what I mean as the more your Flash-Player loaded page continues to run & loop it eventually just slows down to a crawl such to the point that you have to re-load the whole entire page to avoid potential errors or other problems).

    Mabinogi is a clustered database, that is, it is housed across many servers. That Alexina and Nao are labeled as servers is a misnomer. They would be better described as database partitions. The individual channels on Alexina and Nao are the actual servers. If lag is occurring, say on Nao channel 1, there are three ways to deal with it:
    1) move to another channel. If they are all laggy then Nexon can add more channels. This is technically "adding more RAM" but is probably not what you meant;
    2) make hardware/firmware/software improvements, upgrades, and enhancements to these servers, as you suggested;
    3) lower the defined population limit per channel, forcing folks to change channels and spread out more. This is likely not to be well received.

    That notion was funny and made me laugh; well done, sir! Two thumbs up. =b d=

  • Server Merge

    Huw wrote: »
    Are they making plans to merge Alexina and Nao soon? It feels like a ghost town compared to back in 2013. An example was in ch1 at 8pm PST on a saturday and a shadow wiz elite taking 10 mins to get 5 people together. With a dwindling playerbase, it would be wise to merge the remainers into one server, if not simply for better marketing and daily content reasons etc.

    It is inevitable that it will happen. The merge of last June shows that they are willing to merge servers. If the same conditions arise again then they will act accordingly. Knowing why the game was set up as separate servers, in the first place, rather than as one with many channels might help to explain why they left Alexina out of that merge. For me the motivation for a merge is not about population density, but rather the desire to be with all of my friends. For me the making of separate servers was like putting up the Berlin Wall.

  • My horrible experience after server merge.

    Other people have been able to do what you want and without paying. The trick is diligence with support. Don't be negative to them but don't give up. If you are entitled to a free name change then you are entitled to it. If there is an issue with it refusing your free service then they have to explain why. Let them know politely that "Damfino" is not an acceptable answer. And keep at it.

    When the compose skill was uncapped from Rank 5. There was an issue for folks that had already gotten 100+% training on the skill for Rank 4 and it would not let them go to rank 4. I figured it out that if I bought a skill reset cap I could go back to 6 then re-advance the skill and everything would be fine after that. I shouldn't have had to pay but I didn't care; I wanted to be the first on Alexina to get Rank 1 in Compose. After I did THEN told folks how to do get past the issue, because YES I'm a donkey aperture. A friend of mine flat out refused on principal and launched a ticket with support, they told him he'd have to buy a skill reset cap, and he told them why he should not have to. He didn't give up and kept at it, not letting it go, after some time they finally relented and gave him a free skill reset cap.

    It's a copy and paste of this article: http://www.koreaherald.com/view.php?ud=20160729000733
    Note that:
    1) the copy and paste includes the caption of the photo, indicating that the skriddie behind this is too lazy to even look at what he's copying and pasting,
    2) the article itself is from 2016, so it's not a particularly recent event, and
    3) there has been an update on it (spoilers: he was acquitted): http://www.theinvestor.co.kr/view.php?ud=20161213000879

    My guess is that the content of the copypasta isn't what's important. I reckon the real purpose here is for some bonehead to show off his shiny new packet editor.

    Somebody posted this in the official discord server last month, same kinda thing:

    First he couldn't sell Nexon, now he is caught embezzling. Poor Nexon employees have to pay for his bs. Welp, godspeed to everyone.

    You have it the other way around. He was accused of embezzlement, acquitted of all charges, then he said I had enough, I'm gonna sell this ****. But with the trade wars unfolding, the appetite to buy a large corporation at his valuation last year waned and he ended up not selling and instead started to consolidate operations and reinvest for the future.

    Whoever is doing this has some beef against Nexon, probably a former employee trying to use lowly tactics for revenge.

    Could be, maybe it's an old GM upset that they lost their job. Maybe it's the "Why I quit Mabinogi: in thirty minutes or less" guy and they're mad because no one cares, maybe it's just a script kiddy trolling because they're bored. Or maybe it's just a coincidence that Pan's main is in that image! Mwa ha ha ha ha!
