Back in the early days Mabinogi Heroes (Vindictus) was set to be the prequel to Mabinogi by devs design.
Though as the years went on MabiHeroes changed directors and eventually went off path story wise.
I heard a while back that they changed the plan of tied story to it's own thing. Is that true? If so do people still see it as a tie in?

Vindictus is now officially its own alternate timeline. There are characters that are completely different to what we have in Mabi. Somethings are still applicable, but for the most part, its better off regarding Vindi as unrelated.

There’s only like.. maybe less than 5% of the storyline content from Vindictus that are still somewhat connected to Mabinogi enough to a point where you shouldn’t even worry about the connection between Mabinogi and Vindictus anymore, lol.

I remember when there’s one certain player who was screaming at others that they shouldn’t play Mabi if they didn’t play Vindictus mainly due to the “connection”.

Here's the link we still have a strong tie to for both.
    Ferghus.

Player gives iced strawberry brandy to Ferghus in Vindictus, he becomes addicted. Flash forward to present day Mabi, Ferghus' addiction has caused his hands to slip and break items (due to either drunkenness or being to sober to work, or anything of your own discretion on why he breaks things).

Aside from a few of the Vindi player characters mentioned by Legatus, and some name similarities, the games aren't connected at all.
