New Line of "Legendary" Weapons and Equipment

Hi there!

In any mmorpg, "Legendary" weapons and equipment are usually these wonderful, powerful items that people work hard to attain. They're usually not part of the main storyline and can be ignored, but if players put in the time and effort to get them, then these items can greatly make fighting monsters or doing things a lot easier than it normally would.

In Mabinogi, we currently have a few of these "Legendary" items. They're available for sale via the Commerce imp and you pay for them with Ducats. Unfortunately, these weapons seem to have been left behind the times in terms of Mabinogi's changes and addition of more powerful monsters, rendering these supposedly "Legendary" items not all that useful anymore.

Also, most of the special effects of these weapons aren't that great. Take for example the Tethra sword, which was owned by one of the bosses. Although it ignores the defense of a monster, it does not ignore the immunity. It's just weird seeing how a legendary sword can't even defeat a single Wight.

Hilariously, the same legendary Tethra sword can't even defeat flying food ingredients until Chef G hits them first! What kind of legendary weapon is that? The Tethra sword can't hurt the flying food while a Chef with an oversized cooking utensil can beat them up easily? It sure takes away the believability of its "Legendary" status.

In my personal opinion, I think it's time to upgrade these old Legendary weapons to meet the needs of newer monsters, and also introduce a new line of Legendary equipment, not just weapons.

The upgrade to the old Legendary weapons can be as easy as increasing their damage so that they can be useful again in the missions and raids that people regularly play nowadays.

For the new line of Legendary equipment, I suggest different weapons, armor, and accessories with varying special effects. Here's a couple of special effects that would be interesting to see.

For Legendary Weapons:

- Completely Ignore Immunity. This effect will allow you to deal damage normally to monsters that are immune to physical or magic damage, or monsters that need some kind of special gimmick before they can be damaged (for example, the flying food in that needs to be hit by the Chef first or the Shadow Mission Boss that needs to be hit with rusty swords first).

- Health/Mana Absorption. This effect will allow you to immediately take a monster's hp and mana upon striking them.

- Elemental Damage (Fire/Water/Earth/Wind). This effect will allow you to hurt enemies with extra elemental damage with accompanying visual effects. There are already Legendary weapons called Caladbolg and the Sword of Elsinore in the game that can do this, but unfortunately they're so outdated. A modern take would be great, complete with new, impressive visual effects. For Fire effects, it would be great to see monsters get set on fire upon getting hit and while they're on fire, any monster that touches them also gets burned. For Water, maybe the monster can get enveloped in a bubble, which then explodes causing splash damage. For Earth, the ground explodes where the monster is causing rocks to fly around and hit other monsters. For Wind, a whirlwind forms around the monster, slashing them multiple times while also sucking in nearby enemies to also cut them up.

For Legendary Armor:

Helmet/Hat:

- Increased Critical Damage (+100%). The helmet/hat allows you to visualize more clearly where the weakspots of a monster are and allows you to strike them more efficiently, causing great critical damage.

Body Armor/Clothes:

- Damage Reversal (Absorbed Damage Multiplied by 10). The armor/clothes absorbs the damage from the monsters attacking you to allow you to charge up for one powerful attack. The more damage you take without attacking, the more powerful the charge becomes. The charge damage is multiplied and then released the moment you use a normal attack or a skill on a monster and the charge resets back to zero. The charge absorbs the actual damage a monster is supposed to be dealing to you, not the damage after it's been lowered by your armor's defense or protection. So for example, if you're only taking 1 damage from a monster because you have full armor, but a monster is supposed to be hitting for 100 damage, then the charge will absorb the 100 damage. If you don't attack and you let the monster hit you 5 times, then the armor will absorb a total of 500 damage, then it will multiply it by 10, which would result in 5,000 damage. If you attack the monster at this point, then you'll deal 5,000 damage PLUS whatever damage you would normally deal to it without effects.

Gauntlet/Gloves:

- In The Zone: Increased Attack Speed and Reduced Cool Down Time After Consecutive 10 Kills. The gauntlet/gloves will increase your attack speed and reduces cool down time for skills if you kill a number of consecutive monsters without getting hit. For example, if you kill 10 monsters without getting hit even once, you'll receive an attack speed/cool down bonus that lasts for 1 minute before it resets and you have to kill 10 monsters again. On the other hand, if you've killed 9 monsters but you got hit somehow, then you'll have to start from zero again.

Greaves/Boots/Shoes:

- Slow Enemies (25% Chance, 5 second duration). The greaves/boots/shoes will allow you to slow down enemies by attacking them. A lot of the monsters in the game are faster than the player, so having the chance to slow some of them down would help a lot, especially when it comes to multi-aggro situations. The slow down effect on enemies lasts for 5 seconds, giving enough time for the player to get away or deal with the faster monsters first.

Legendary Accessories:

- Fortune Accessory (Increased Drop Rate 50% for 1 minute after 10 Consecutive Kills). This accessory increases the drop rate of money, items, quest items, and everything else for a short period of time. You need to kill 10 monsters without being hit in order for the effect to activate. If you get hit before completing the 10 kills, then the counter will reset and you'll have to build up 10 kills again.

- Bountiful Accessory (Increased Chances of Huge Lucky Finish for 1 minute after 10 Consecutive Kills). This accessory will increase the chances of getting a Huge Lucky Finish from monsters. If you get hit before killing 10 monsters, the counter will reset and you'll have to build up 10 kills again.

How to Get New Legendary Weapons and Equipment:

In my opinion, I would love to see these legendary weapons and items have their own storylines. They don't need to be part of Mabinogi's main storyline, but it would be great if each equipment had their own storyline that we can experience in order to earn the items.

For example, let's say we want to get a new Legendary sword. Let's call it "Sword of Rapture" and it has the ability to ignore any kind of immunity on a monster. It also has very high damage that matches "end game" weapons or gachapon weapons. It won't be part of the main Mabinogi storyline, but players will be able to take this "quest" if they choose to do so. Since this is a Legendary weapon that can match end game stuff, then it has to be a grand adventure! Maybe our heroes will hear about a rumor from the Treasure Hunter. He'll tell us that he found some relics that describe a long forgotten battle involving people from different realities. Although he believes it's just another story, our heroes sense that there could be more to the story than it seems. Our heroes then set out on a journey to find out more about this battle, and then they learn about the "Sword of Rapture". There will be new dungeons, new castles, new places to explore!

In another example story, maybe the "Bountiful" accessory (which provides a chance for increased Huge Lucky Finishes) is a ring. One man found this Bountiful ring and didn't realize that what he's holding had that ability. He then gives this Bountiful ring to the woman he is courting as an engagement ring! Unfortunately for them, the Bountiful ring is possessed by the spirit of a former tyrant who ruled people without mercy. The tyrant then influences the mind of the man's girlfriend and she becomes a very greedy and power hungry tyrant herself. The girlfriend becomes powerful enough to raise her own army and she becomes a true tyrant, feared by the people around them. The man then travels to ask help from Queen Eirawen, and of course, Eirawen gives this assignment to us, the heroes! At first, we think we're just dealing with a normal power hungry psychopath, but we immediately sense something is wrong with the tyrant girlfriend when she starts summoning the undead to become part of her army!

Anyway those are just example stories. It would really be awesome if players can do these side stories and earn these wonderful Legendary items.

Thanks for reading!
