In order to comply with regulations in Slovakia, Nexon America will be implementing rules to the Cash Shop that will only affect players accessing the game’s Cash Shop from Slovakia.

Effective June 3, 2021, the following changes will be applied for players who access the game from Slovakia:

The following items will no longer be available for purchase and will not be visible in the Web Shop. All other items can still be purchased through the in-game Web Shop and on the Mabinogi website:

Items categorized as Gachapon which include the limited-time Gachapons, the permanent Eweca Orb Gachapon (1) and (11), and the Fixed Dye Gachapon.
(Any of these items purchased prior to June 3, 2021 can still be used after this date.)

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this causes our Slovakian players.

-The Mabinogi Team

You could make a calculation based on the likelihood of getting a particular item from a gacha and determine the average amount of money it takes to get such an item, but the really low chance items would end up being hundreds of dollars. I don't think even the most addicted whales would be willing to spend that kind of real money for a single item. With gacha, whales can sell-off all their fails for gold and then buy the desired item using said gold in the Auction House. If Nexon wants to sell items directly, then they'd have to list them at a much lower amount for folks to bite, but then pricing of expected revenue of gacha versus direct item purchase vis-a-vis elasticity of demand comes into play. Either:
    1. Nexon has done their homework and gacha is the better revenue stream, and now they're left having to scramble to compensate,
    2. They figure addicts make the best customers and so there's no need to do any homework,
    3. Someone came up with the idea of gacha so they could stop thinking about it and go home for supper.

Dayum, another one bites the dust. Not surprising, you guys might want to consider changing your business model soon. Like bringing back shopping bags for NEW stuff. We covered this in a VERY LENGTHY thread a couple years ago when Belgium was the first country to do this. As predicted more countries are following suit and more will follow. Do you guys have any plans? We're really curious and concerned.

Because one of our other predictions is that Nexon will not change their business model and this will unfortunately lead to things I can't say because FUD. Maybe it won't quite be FUD anymore when a handful of other countries follow suit.

    Another thing...

I noticed that recently you have finally starting charging tax on my transactions. Took you guys a year and a half to finally implement it after it was announced and made official back in October 2019. Now you finally blocked Slovakia even though they had gaming gambling banned since June 2019. Does this mean you guys are finally getting fined for that? Are you guys in hot water?

Rhetorical questions because I know you can't answer that. I know the Netherlands thing was recent from this year. Looks like I caught some oversights. I wonder what that means and what kind of other stuff is going on.

I hope I didn't say too much. All this information is easily available online.

I would rather spend $20 to $30 dollars on new outfit in outfit bags instead of wasting over $100 trying to get it from a crappy gacha. the special outfit scam should be stopped as well, selling outfits with and without idle animations is just another cheap way to bleed our wallets dry. if someone has spent $100 to $200 dollars or more trying to get a outfit from a gacha they deserve to have the idle animation included.

pet gacha is not as horrible as normal gacha but if gacha is ever banned in the US we won't get anymore pet gacha either. we don't really need it anyway, it would be nice if we could directly buy more new pets again. the cash shop does need to change and I would still be happy to pay Nexon if all scummy gacha was gone and all new pets, outfits, and chair items could just be purchased directly and we would get exactly what we pay for.

Nexon is already losing money with each country that bans gacha. Nexon NA really does need to change their business model cause what works for Nexon KR doesn't always work well for US. they can still make a lot of money off of NA players with the right cash shop changes but if gacha gets banned in the US and they are not prepared it could end the NA version of mabi.

I can't see gacha being banned in the US. Gambling is legal in the US; casino, lottery, bingo halls, sports betting, etc. The game clearly says for ages 18 years and up. Any child playing the game shouldn't be and that's not Nexon's fault. If someone is going to lie, what are they supposed to do about it?

I would too but...predictions concluded that Nexon would never give up gacha. They would end up doing the unmentionable before considering direct purchase. But I also think they could potentially make more money by doing direct purchase. But then I worry that the whales would leave because they would lose their exclusive priviledged content.

It's a double edge sword. The outcome leads both ways.

But what if they just at least do it for new outfits, chairs/hs props, and pets? You know, superficial stuff. They could still gacha the rest of the combat related items and gears. Maybe we can find a happy balance that everyone can enjoy and appreciate that will sustain the game?

But then the skeptic in me highly doubts it. Nexon is just too stubborn.
