Martial Arts Question

What skills and stats scale with Martial Arts?
I know Will gives damage, but what about Strength?
What about skills like Combat Mastery?
Does smash do anything special with Knuckles?
The term "melee damage" "Melee Combat" and "melee attacks" are used often, does Martial Arts fall under these terms?

"Strength (Str) adds a Damage Bonus to Melee Combat, Control Bars, Atlatl, Dual Guns, and Shuriken. It also increases Defense."- Str description from the wiki

"Passively increases Minimum and Maximum Damage and Balance of melee attacks "- Combat Mastery description from the wiki

I believe it follows the same rules as Chains and Control Bars in that damage even for basic attacks are only effected by the talent’s stats. (In this case Will.)

I think combat mastery does effect it but only for basic attacks, everything els scales off of Chain and Knuckle Mastery instead.

Ninja benefits greatly from the Will ranking Martial Arts skills give and you'll also gain a good chunk of magic defense since that too scales off of Will, some of the skills also give small bits of Strength and HP.

Strength's only benefit when you have knuckles on is giving you higher defense.
What about skills like Combat Mastery?
Combat Mastery's bonuses apply to knuckles as does the popular Combat Mastery max damage reforge.
Does smash do anything special with Knuckles?
Smash uses the 1 handed multiplier for your race and skill rank and does not inflict and special debuffs with knuckles.

Almost every skill or attack in the game has one of three damage types, Melee, Ranged, or Magic, they're primarily used in determining which of the monster's passive defenses reduce damage they take with Heavy Stander resisting Melee type damage, Natural Shield resisting Ranged, and Mana Deflector resisting magic. The player also gets a form of these passives with Auto Defense or "Ping" armor as well as with transformation (Paladin or Dark Knight for humans, and the Beast transforms for elf and giant).

The wording can be a bit confusing at times but they mean to say the Close Combat and Lance type weapons when they say "Melee Combat" on the wiki. As for Combat Mastery it's bonus is kind of inconsistent but for the most part if it's a contact weapon that does melee type damage it applies. (Close Combat weapons, Lances, Knuckles, Rapiers and Scythes despite not having their own masteries or skills yet. But not Chain Blades because they're a ranged weapon that does melee type damage rather than a contact weapon.)
