Who is this 3rd party?
Server merge. Yes.
The other thread was closed with this statement.
So as long as we meet this criteria, we're fine. The thread its' self does not have a poll. The OP has not made calls to "Show your support". It is clear that the purpose of the thread is to discuss the matter. If someone happens to say "I support this" or "I don't support this", how can the OP help that? This thread and the one it continues is especially full of materiel of the "on implementation or even details as to what it entails or how" and so fully meets those criteria. If someone hostile to the idea discussed, purposely attempts to get the thread closed, then shouldn't that person, or people doing so, be dealt with by the staff rather than punishing the rest of the folks who have followed the rules and conversed in good faith?
We shouldn't take these forums seriously...
But yeee.. if the servers are from a 3rd party then they could just like rent more then, that would take care of the whole 'not enough channels' idea maybe? I'm not a tech specialist though so I have no idea.
Six points with a chance for the extra point!
Alexina, at the moment, is probably not in the situation the other servers were in. If it ever reaches that situation, we have already seen, Nexon may let it atrophy but it will not let it go down and, in such a situation, it will be merged as well. But the merge of Nao had an unexpected effect: people came back to the game; most stayed. People have argued that this is all just hype. To some extent this is true. For, example after a few weeks, it is finally possible to move freely to Channel 1 Nao on the first try, nearly every time. However, while active log-ins may vary over a 24-hour period, Nao has shown a consistently significantly higher population of active log-ins beyond the sum of their pre-merge active log-ins. If they merged Alexina then there is the potential for dormant Alexinans to return as well.
Since, Alexina is still "Healthy" compared to the other three servers, pre-merge, for now, perhaps it can survive until the problems the merge created, such as the inability to have multiple "same name" characters, are solved. Given that and an overall sufficient boost to the number of channels allocated to a grand unified server, and Nexon would be prepared to act. That it would create a net increase in their overall customer base and they will.
First time I have heard about the servers being third party though... not sure how I feel about this information so I will just stow it for later.
server transfer coupons already exist in mabi KR so we might get them eventually. I would still prefer a full merge to happen instead. if they do ever plan to bring server transfers to mabi NA it would be nice if they could make a new server transfer coupon that transfers all characters and pets as well so players with a large number of pets could get everything moved by purchasing one account transfer coupon instead of having to get 50 pet transfer coupons.
Each channel is what we would think of as a server, whereas calling: Alexina, Mari, Nao, Ruairi, and Tarlach "servers" was a misnomer. This is why lag is not a "serverwide" issue but is confined to individual channels. If a "server" is having lag issues on all it's channels then you add more channels to spread the load. This is why Nao was boosted to 10 channels from 7 only days after going live. When you have a high population server you increase the chance that one or more particular channels will be so busy that no one else can get in. We see this with Nao channel one from time to time, but less so now than in June of this year. Alexina channel one has not had this issue for a very long time.
Of course if a channel is full and you are trying to get in, it's frustrating. But then, why are you trying to get in? Either because you want to shop or because you want to make a party. If you make a party then, say, go run SMs, the channel being full is going to result in lag, adding more frustration. Here the trick is to do your recruiting on the busy channel but to do the party activity on another one. What about shopping? If a channel is super busy doesn't that mean better shopping once you get in? After all, shopping is a lag independent activity. With busy channels, you only go to them if you have to then leave once you're done. This helps spread out the population. Of course, over time, this is exactly the behavior that will emerge anyway, on its own. So it was on Alexina, so it appears to be occurring on Nao, um, now.
With a single server, all rare drops that actually happen are then potentially available to the entire community. There was an interview posted on these forums a few months back of someone at Nexon in Korea talking about each "server" having its own sense of community which leads to playful interaction between the various communities. Well maybe in Korea it does but have you read these forums lately? It ain't happening here. This is what happens when you divide people.
... A very serious network upgrade.
Definitely, since we all can't live right across the street from the datacenter housing the game.
Which points to the country's infrastructural weakness.
*Nods head.* A difficult situation, but networking for some games are getting so good it hardly matters being on the other side of the country. Whether or not they could implement these upgrades to the Pleione engine... *shrugs*
New rehashed idea... port Mabi to a new engine.... though the Pleione engine is Mabi and Mabi is the Pleione engine for the most part....
REBUILD Mabi!... oh look... a wild mabi mobile has appeared....
This is why I hate the mobile gaming market.
Is it actually pronounced "Play-on Engine"?
I believe so.
