There are ways to get bots through captcha somewhat easily. Captcha would only be a temporary fix.
Plus it would just be plain annoying to the rest of the members.

dont forget the event awards are bad, very few people care about swimsuits now, its all about school dress.

Umm what? Which event rewards are bad????? We lately got useful good event rewards like upgrade stones and enchant protection potions... I don't understand what you talking about. How your post is supposed to be included about botting though...

Its watercat. Don't try looking for logic there.

Maybe a captcha when you make a new thread or something?

Can bots solve Russian Captchas? I know most people here can't, but just wondering.

You can't judge a book by its cover. These "bots" are all legit players. Some like to spam gold selling websites, some like to afk at Belvast for their shop, or some even like to post on the forum to +1 their forum post counts.

At what point does this character become a bot? ~ (it never does, and that's the whole point of not being the judge).

But what if the real should "bots" are actually nexon bots being a covert gold sink? -xfiles intro-

    Short answer: yes.
Long answer: pretty much any forms of character based captcha can be beaten by optical character recognition software

Because clearly every single forum account that makes ten threads in under a minute with the same content in each of them is clearly a legit user. And every time I see a player doing the same task in the same place ten hours at a time nonstop with zero chat interactions or attempts to say something to me while I stalk them are also entirely legit users.

Some of them are probably legitimate second accounts/characters of normal people, but there are a lot of red flags being raised with how these Belvast shops are cropping up with different characters entirely every other hour when old characters 'disconnect'. Saying that we should ignore them all because there are probably real people is shoving a massive issue under the carpet.

No one is saying to ignore a massive issue nor even implying it, but instead outlining two entirely different ones.

A name is not enough proof of foul play, regardless of what kind of name it is (be it a keysmash name or something entirely legible).

That can be true, but its kind of obvious on the forums. I mean, the mods seriously can't be "approving" every account that comes through.

EDIT I DIDN'T MEAN TO POST THAT WITH JUST THE QUOTES.

That bolded bit is why I made my post. If you're going to just defend all of them as legit players you might as well be ignoring the issue. But in the end our endless squabbling about it won't be what fixes it: that's up to Nexon.

I took care of all that spam for now. And yes, it would be nice to not have to remove this spam multiple times each day.

@morbius17 ask the forum dev to limit 1 new thread an hour for new forum member.

Heck they could apply this limit to ALL forum members. Even the spammist attention-seekers don't need to make threads more than every hour.

    ....

Bots are the most annoying thing, on Mabi and on the forums.

Half the time I go shopping, someone says hi to me and then I can't see it in the chat logs and then they think I'm ignoring them because they have the bot blacklisted -3-

Also, I've had to ping VFMs a million times lately because the spam is really bad. I do suggest updating the method of acceptance into The forums, but we really need more VFMs as well...

Let's get real here folks... No one's going to have 5 to 20 computers designated to running mabinogi. That's just stupid, it's sad, it's stupid, and anyone who goes and does that is just desperate. I would imagine any of these people would suffer extreme flak from their families, or large electricity bills.

Multi-boxing is only available through modding, and apparently someone is abusing mods to set up a botting market specifically designed for gold farming. You can deny it sure, turn your nose at it, or even flat out say something opposite to cover your own butts. However this is more than obvious, and it is what it is.

The truth is that these people are greedy, toxic people who want to reach the top first, and become that specialist snowflake with all the squire gear, and 400 characters loaded with 5mil cheques. But the thing is, is that these people are breaking the rules, and all it would take is for Nexon to find each of their accounts and systematically ban them all. Aside from that, people often forget that some people actually have gotten hacked for being too greedy by non other than the people who make these mods.

It's all money money money to these people, they don't care who they have to lie to, or who they have to toss under the bus to cover their butts, they'll do it. They'll make discord channels and talk amongst themselves and plot against those who attempt to "deter" their little organized gold farming too.

It's sick, it's a toxic way to play a game, and I wish Nexon did something about it.

""Gold farming"--selling virtual credits amassed in online multiplayer games such as World of Warcraft to gamers for cash--is part of a $3 billion market of virtual gaming goods, according to a recent World Bank estimate, and nowhere is the practice more widespread than China."

How much do you think has changed in 6 years, and do you honestly believe it's just WoW?

Imagine if you will; Farming Game Gold in Prison. :(

That is a huge factor in botting in most MMO's undoubtedly, however there are players who do this routinely as a shady get-rich easy scheme. Don't believe me? Look at the Mabinogi Alexina facebook group.
