Ireland and Scotland are getting hit by a hurricane.
Make an event out of that Nexon!
Reasons our content never releases:
- Developers never care about NA
- Mabinogi money on NA was spent on Mabinogi Duel
- Our events are copy and pasted
- Gotchas everywhere
- People are not playing the game like they were used to.
- NA Mabinogi developers never talked to us, we do not know their names!
Its time to kill this game!
Wow, um I hope we get this then. -nudges NA-
Alas...
Well I already quit buying gacha. I used to buy several stacks a month. But they don't care about upgrading our VIP service, EVERYTHING is gacha now - you can't buy new pets outfits directly anymore. We have a Frankenstein version of mabinogi because red tape BS. Even some of the whales I know have quit buying gacha. We are well on our way to watching this game die FOR REAL this time.
Unless NA changes how they address the AMERICAN demographic. We don't spend the same way Koreans do and AND we have a waaaaay smaller player base.
Mark my words, it's going to go to hell in the next year or so. The in game market has been suffering for the last couple of months. There's just barely anything interesting there anymore. They gave us those bags to encourage a healthier market appearance. But there's nothing but junk in them because we're not buying gacha anymore!
I am pretty damn sure they have noticed a significant drop in gacha sales as of late.
Wake up Nexon.
Wait, why are we killing NA Mabi and not the devs?
I don't know but it has not been looking very good for a while. I appreciate the things that our staff has done for us this year... but KR has always hated us because we don't make more money for them than their own player base. And that's because they didn't and still don't advertise enough. So our player base is smaller and thus doesn't make as much money. Plus as I said before, we don't spend the same way KR does.
Lol.
I propose to my audience here, the Mabi cycle:
1. Gacha has good drop rates, resulting in consumers buying tons of gachas.
2. Nexon adjusts drop rates to try and get more money out of everyone and/or keep "jackpot" items more rare.
3. Consumers keep buying for a while and things appear to look good
4. Nexon adjusts drop rates to the point of being unwinnable.
5. Consumers buy for a while but start backing off when they realize they can't win
6. Several more gachas release with increasingly terrible odds
7. Consumers outright revolt
8. Nexon adjusts drop rates to be plentiful
Wash, rinse, repeat, and the cycle begins again. I've observed this cycle about 3-4 times since mabi began, and each cycle can consist of years.
We are currently in step 1 of this cycle. Step 8 was early summer this year. Whether or not your personal drop rates have been great, gachas have been giving away featured items like candy since early summer, and even if something doesn't drop for me, I have no trouble buying what I want off other players, which is much harder to do when drop rates are bad. The exceptions to this rule have usually been due to there being too big a pool of "featured" items, making it hard to find what you want.
Nobody plays slot machines in a casino notorious for bad odds, and word gets around. Maybe eventually Nexon will learn to keep the odds balanced. Who knows? Until then, stay vigilant. And if you really want the better VIP, just keep bugging Nexon about it, because if there's one thing that gets their attention, it's money.
Heh. Yeah, but it's not like any of us are here unwillingly. I just wish people would learn to chill.
I'll give you that, we are definitely revolting right now and have been for the last couple of months. I don't mean to fud but I am basically stating facts about the current state of our beloved game.
And I'm saying that right now if anything the drop rates are superb and the players are responding in kind. Yes, we all whine about not getting what we want on the first try, but if you look at it from the outside (I keep my gacha spending under a very low budget, and if I use that, I stop) the rates are actually pretty good. You know things are bad when you *can't* buy stuff off other players. Right now the game (and the player spending) is not reflecting that. The freakin' cosmic outfits are EV.ER.Y.WHERE.
I'm not asking you to buy gachas and I certainly hope you manage to get them to bring the VIP to the Korean level. But Nexon isn't going to throw the game away, especially not when the players are on a spending streak.
Why do you support gacha for?
I've also seen games in 10000x worse of a state as Mabi NA keep going to this day.
As for Gacha itself...
If Gacha suddenly got removed, a lot of the actually somewhat useful garbage items would not be on the market as much and rise in price. So people whine that basic commodities like shadow crystals are unaffordable. Gacha comes back and makes such common alongside usual prizes so things become stable.
But because Gacha is back people will whine about not getting their precious snowflake 0.01% chance magical super dress and shun nexon for their own money spending decisions. And because people keep buying it, the people in charge call it a successful thing to do and release more of it.
In turn this creates an endless cycle of people whining about RNG and the market getting stocked with otherwise hard to obtain/understocked/rare items.
And since so few actually buy VIP it sends the message that nobody wants VIP, despite constantly asking for a VIP update.
Which creates a cycle of players yelling at the people in charge and creating some sort of disconnect. Much like other things.
In short: Gacha is the necessary evil that everyone deserves but nobody wants.
I've only cared about gacha when the planets align myself. But even with the problems it has, it still stocks otherwise hard to obtain or unobtainable items into the market.
And no, having only shopping bags around will not magically solve everything.
The desire for a shopping bag is subjective, and entirely dependent on what is inside.
People will not just magically buy something in a large amount because RNG is removed.
And judging by the appearance of "Lootboxes" in other games, this practice is not going away anytime soon.
The shame we must live with for now, it seems.
Back in the days when the subscription model was King, you could pay anywhere from $10-$30 per month on an MMO subscription and get little more than in the front door. (I think I remember Everquest having "premium" servers which were like $40 a month to use. I don't remember what was so premium about 'em other than bragging rights.)
I consider spending on Mabi to be positive reinforcement for a game I enjoy. Nothing more and nothing less. If the gacha is that terrible I'll skip it and use gold to get what I want. If mabi ever gets to the point where it's more frustrating than fun, I'll quietly leave. A game is pointless if it isn't fun, and businesses seem to notice your lack of presence more than people crying out in public.
You've hit a point that I don't think people touch on very often. There have been times that I bought gachas for the "junk" and not the featured items. And some of those times have been when the featured item drop was utterly terrible, but the "junk" was desired enough for me to keep putting money in. Not everybody gachas for the same items. I hated the drop rate for the Argenta items back in the day, but some of the secondary items kept me coming back.
A big example is shadow crystals. There are people who literally only gacha to get things like shadow crystals, exploration xp items, etc.
For decades, they've worked like this. It's like buying a lottery, you gamble some in hopes for the big prize, just this prize is a lot more expensive to get. And depending on who it is, they will value it differently and unlike most lotteries, you're guaranteed to get at least something.
But the argument against gachas is that gachas release so many items to the point that people who gacha have so many of them it isn't worth anything to them anymore, up until the point it turns into annoyance which is where the complaints come in.
There will always be those who will always find it useful and others who end up not liking it.
The model's failing in America. It's killing it out in the East, so our Eastern developer friends aren't likely to try and create catered sales for another region. We've pretty much followed every outfit/pet release to the letter of what Korea has done for the past 5 years or so: they aren't likely to change that unless someone reallllllllllly high up starts to complain as well.
I sure did spend a lot of NX buying every rebirth outfit that came out.
Also the third page in this thread is dark and depressing.
