  • Making more outfits Genderswapped

    We've already got clothing that magically fits both elves and giants. Seems totally reasonable that it should also be able to fit both male and female characters.

    Or we could take it a step further in support of gender diversity. There really aren't any game mechanics that rely on gender. So why not eliminate gender entirely. On each rebirth you get to choose a body shape, which would include the current existing two gendered options, but renamed with non-gendered terms like "curvy" and "chunky", but could also include other options that don't conform to any existing gender norms.

  • Part Time Jobs: Remove "Report from Time"

    When a game is new and has limited content, developers sometimes deliberately introduce delays into the game to try to make the content last longer. When a game matures and has plenty of content, as Mabinogi has been for several years now, those delays should be removed.

    One such delay occurs in part time jobs. A part time job becomes available at its "start time", and must be turned in between the "Report from time" and the "End time". The "Report from time" is anywhere from 2 to 5 in-game hours after the "start time", meaning the player is sometimes standing around with the task finished, waiting for the "Report from time" to arrive. That's no longer necessary. Please let us turn in the part time job immediately and get onto our next task. Mabinogi is now a sufficiently complex game that we are not going to run out of things to do if you let us turn in the part time job immediately.

    The fast way to implement this change is just to change the "Report from time" on each job to match its "Start time". Longer term, you could delete all the code that deals with the "Report from time". It's a complex game. Surely a change that lets you simplify the code is good for the ongoing maintenance of the game.

  • Inventory: highlight items that will expire

    In the inventory window, once an inventory item has expired, it is given a different background colour to make it stand out. That is, it's easy to spot expired items when it's too late to use them.

    It would be useful to also highlight the items that will expire but haven't yet done so, using a different background colour to those that have expired.

    Currently, when you have several expiring items, it's too easy to forget about one, only to reminded too late when it gets highlighted as expired.

  • Harmon's Flower Tree Event! 4/30-5/21

    Efficient curious cabbaging: This strategy avoids the need to wait around for cabbages to complete and doesn't require use of music to increase the growth speed.

    So far, I've only verified this strategy for Days 1 and 2. Based on how they behaved, I'm guessing Days 3 onwards will work as described below. (EDIT: I have now verified it works for Days 1 to 4 inclusive.)

    Day 1:
    Talk to Harmon. He gives you a curious cabbage seed. Plant it.
    Do 3 times: {Buy fertiliser from Harmon. Use it to raise sappling level.}
    This gets your sappling to level 4. You've also got 1 curious cabbage growing for tomorrow.

    Day 2:
    Talk to Harmon. He gives you a curious cabbage seed. Plant it.
    Harvest your completed curious cabbage that was planted yesterday. Give it to Harmon. He gives you a fertiliser and a curious cabbage seed. Plant the seed. Use the fertiser to raise sappling level.
    Do 2 times: {Buy fertiliser from Harmon. Use it to raise sappling level.}
    This gets your sappling to level 4. You've also got 2 curious cabbages growing for tomorrow.

    Day 3: Talk to Harmon. He gives you a curious cabbage seed. Plant it.
    Do 2 times: {Harvest one of your completed curious cabbages from yesterday. Give it to Harmon. He gives you a fertiliser and a curious cabbage seed. Plant the seed. Use the fertiser to raise sappling level.}
    Buy fertiliser from Harmon. Use it to raise sappling level.
    This gets your sappling to level 4. You've also got 3 curious cabbages growing for tomorrow.

    From Day 4 onwards you don't need to buy any more fertiliser because you can get your sappling to level 4 using cabbages that are ready and waiting because you planted them yesterday.

    (Pegasuses = American; Pegasii = International English-Standard).

    If you are following the Latin convention, as UK English often does, I think the plural of pegasus would be pegasi, not peagsii. Going from singular to plural, replace "us" by "i". For example, the singular syllabus gives the plural syllabi. The only cases where a double-i arises in a Latin plural is where the singular already had an "i" immediately before the "us" ending. For example, the singular radius gives the plural radii.

    I think I can now claim 5 pedant points.
