Magic or physical armor upgrades?

So I've just bought myself a Royal Knight Armor and I'm ready to start upgrading it.
However, I'm not sure which upgrade path I should go with- physical or magic?
Magic seems more tempting to me because most enemies already deal 1 damage to me while magic is usually what ends up killing me. However I'm still under 1k total, and maybe in the future physical would be more valuable?
What would you guys suggest?
Current defenses-
170 defense
41 protection
59 magic defense
14 magic protection
