Cannot Uninstall

Ok. Mabinogi was working fine up until yesterday on my laptop. Then the launcher asked to update. I updated it; but an error message popped up and said that "Installation Failed".

So I uninstalled the launcher first, then re-installed it. I went through the computer files to make sure the entire launcher was un-installed. Re-installed it from the site, then tried again.

Installation Failed.

So I tried to un-install the game Mabinogi. But it wouldn't work. I tried to un-install from the launcher first, then I went into the file location and tried to delete the files. It kept saying only an administrator can delete the files.....But I AM logged into my admin account. How do I delete these files so I can re-install if the files won't recognize my admin account as an admin account?

When removing the launcher; you need to delete the below hidden folder before reinstalling it. Else, nothing about it will change.

    C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\NexonLauncher

Yeah, I noticed you mentioned that in another thread, so I did make sure that the above file was deleted.

Edit: You should be able to give permission on that prompt? The one for admin. (Try moving the folder to a different location first).

I tried moving the folder, but this is where I found something suspicious. It said that the file was still open in another location. I restarted my computer, brought up the command prompt, and made sure the launcher (or anything labeled Nexon/Mabinogi) wasn't running in the background, but I could find nothing. I tried moving the folder again, and it again said that it was open in another location and would not be moved.

I panicked a bit and tried to do a system restore. I have a restore point with a windows update on Jan 10. I chose that, waited, but when it came back it said the restore failed, which is making me a bit more panicky. I'm going to see if I can choose a closer restore point. I really hope that my computer isn't damaged or broken from something, which I'm really starting to get scared of.

Edit 2: Make sure the launcher isn't running when trying to delete things.
Edit 3: If you can run the launcher; run the Repair Installation option before trying to uninstall/reinstall (if it's not too late already).

I did do both of these. For "Edit 2" I made sure that the launcher was closed out and wasn't in the command prompt when I tried deleting the folder.

"Edit 3": I did see that option in the launcher and tried running it. It came up with the same "Installation failed" message as all the other times. I also tried to uninstall it from the launcher; it took a suspiciously short time, and though the "Play" button changed to "Download", I could still easily find the game files in my computer (C:). That's when I tried to delete it manually and came up with the problems.

Edit 4: I've never used it before, but .. I just ran the Uninstall option in the launcher. (I R OUT OF DATE). - and it worked. :( ..

Edit 5: I have to download the game all over again ..:bawling:.. ~ /facedesk .. (I can't believe I did that.. ~ Goes back to bed). :bawling:

Ah oh no! D: I hope you were able to download the game again. *pats back*

I'll have to mess with the game later; for now, I'm starting to panic that my computer has some kind of virus or is broken. If it is, I'm not sure I can afford to replace it. O~O

Ok....So. Many of the earlier restore points wouldn't work, except for the latest one, which was on Thursday. A day before the issues. So I restored it to Thursday and, heck, it actually worked. I was able to uninstall the game and completely delete the Mabi folders (It didn't even ask do that 'ask for admin' loop this time. Heck, it didn't ask for admin at all). I then went and re-downloaded the game and got it up and running perfectly...as if nothing had gone wrong before.

I...am not sure what exactly happened. Perhaps I picked up something nasty on Friday which impacted my computer?? Everything seems to be fine though. I'll run a scan just to make sure. The only other thing that I find unusual is that when I brought up Chrome (after the restore and properly deleting the game), my adblock extension wouldn't work and was listed by Chrome as being corrupted. I went ahead and deleted it. Adblock was working before I did the restore. Coincidence? I'm not sure.

    Thank you for helping me out though, Hardmuscle! I really appreciate it so much. Ah...and I'm sorry you ended up accidentally uninstalling the game while trying to help me. I hope it didn't give you the same trouble as it did me to re-install it. ;-;

I'm glad it all worked out for you. I got it installed again, but I'm still battling Murphy on another issue .. I think I have a static problem here or something .. (or something is trolling me hard). Joulemeter and Kill A Watt insist my power supply is good .. better than good .. and it still shuts off randomly (no event log aside from loss of kernel power; because it shut off) .. ~ .. ~ i'm going coo-coo for cocoa puffs over this. :p

Ahhh that does not sound good at all. I remember I had an issue where my computer was shutting off randomly; it ended up being the hard drive had gotten damaged and had to be replaced. It would make clicking noises as it was running too. I hope that isn't the case though; maybe scan hardware to make sure because replacing parts isn't very fun. :(

Ah..either way, I do hope you get it back up and working~!
