Is there a requirement to start g8?

I need crumena for meteor training but my new mage char can't seem to trigger it.

    You will have to complete G7 in order to start G8. Alternatively, you can skip G7 by talking to Kousai.

    According to the wiki, you need rank 1 fireball to trigger the quest. Honestly...I would just ante up the 39 pon and get the Druid talent because of this:

    I think they already know Meteor, and are just wanting access to Crumena to more easily fulfill the "Attack a dragon" part of Meteor's master training.

    And yeah, to start G8 you need to either finish or Skip G7 (via Kousai in Cor).
    And to start G7, you'll need to finish G3.

    Of course, if your character's total level is high enough, Duncan should allow the option to start a Generation even if you haven't finished the ones before it.
    I have no idea what total level that would be though.
    Try talking to Chief Duncan about Storyline Selection.

    Does he even offer the chance to start G8, or does he skip that and just go from G3 to G9.

    That'd stink.
    G3's final is such a slog.
