i've been at this for weeks now and can't seem to be making any progress. I deal about 10% of permanent damage before getting annoyed 20 minutes in. What can I do to pass this part?

Very important: always having a pet out to constantly hit the doppelganger. This will temporarily stop the hp regeneration every time it gets hit so essentially it will slow it down the regen. Make sure your pet has Divine Link up to tank hits. Every time the pillars get foggy with darkness, ignore the doppelganger, let your pet distract it and you go knock the darkness out immediately, the last thing you need is more doppelgangers.
Things I never tried but theoretically could work: bring a Rag Doll, summon four minions to attack and stunt the HP regen. Or bring Mercenary Scrolls from Tailteann for the same thing but you can summon five at once and each scroll costs a bit of money (basic level lions should be enough of a distraction at 4k each). Rag Dolls and Mercenaries all last 3 minutes.
Here is what I did to beat the Doppelganger:
I catered 10x Super Sticky Mochi gained from the attendance event a while back and consumed that (via the Catering skill) for 2500+ across all stats. The effect lasted 20 minutes (with Rank 1 Catering) and it was a big help. My weapon of choice was a Chain Blade. I made use of its normal attacks to Wound the Doppelganger (very slow process), then whenever I hit high enough Dorcha (15), I'd use Chain Impale repeatedly to drop the HP (and not necessarily Wounds) significantly and switched back to normal attacks again once my Dorcha was low to help halt/slow the HP regeneration process. To reach and hit the orbs, I usually ran over to them or used Anchor Rush, which, by the way, can be used to escape from Shadow Spirit (used when the Doppelganger's HP hits below 50%) as long as you time it right or use it twice when the Doppelganger casts it.
For this fight, you really have to get clever. I failed the mission and made poor progress more than once before I did everything I mentioned above, but for your case it might be different. Keep trying and see what works for you. I really recommend trying the Chain Blade (or bow if you find that more efficient for critting/Wounding). Also, if you can beat the Doppelganger just by getting the HP all the way down via crits (or whatever else) rather than waiting for Wounding to do the job, go for it.
Good luck.
As the other above said, divine link a good pet. For both the reg prevention and just to keep yourself alive. The Pegasus is one you should have, and pretty strong to boot. Train up those divine link sub-skills too to make sure it can survive.
And yea, you need wounding skills - i've seen/heard mages succeed, but those guys are OP as hell. cc4 Firebolt won't help you here.
I did this melee, but my injury min rate is very high. Paladin also up'd my min injury to something like 85%. Final hit and bash was my dps, and I used magic to kill the clones. But this might be a better option for you.
Speaking of which, you also need to kill the clones or hit all the switches - each clone gives the main doppelganger protection and defense, and it seriously hurts your dps and injury rate. After a while, it will do Shadow Spirit instead, but just WM the dude when that shows up.
If you want other tactics, people put a lot in that giant thread a month or 2 back, has like 18 pages in general. And people psted videos on youtube.
Otherwise... yea, you better do your best to stack up. Train if you have to. Tho, save some stuff for the final boss. Save naos/revive balloons/ other revival methods. Trust me, you'll want them then.
If you're human, getting 1k Strength and using Final Hit should be more than enough as long as you kill the clones first(though some could argue only 800 STR is enough). For elf(my method), 1k DEX with Magnum Shot will kill it in 2-4minutes regardless of how many clones are out. You can increase your aim speed with Final Shot, as well as Vision of Ladeca if you're level 100. You won't even need to pay attention to the clones during this mission doing that, just be wary of the orbs you may need to hit.
It's possible you may need to get a better weapon. I used a Salvation Bow(22-79 attack), but there were no enchants, reforges or upgrades on it. I would have struggled with my old bow, which had somewhere around 13-49attack. I can't recall the exact numbers since I sold it a while ago, but nonetheless the Salvation bow was a huge increase in damage.
If you don't have it, I'd suggest going for Sacred Revival in Divine Link. It will instantly revive your pet once when they die, as long as Divine Link is active. Soul Restoration will also help a lot as it will heal your pet while it's alive. Under Cruscader skills, go to manage skills and see if you can add them. If not, and you've done all of the above and are still struggling, work on leveling your cruscader skills to get this. The pet constantly being able to draw aggro will help you immensely.
- Get two Beam Swords(they're 200k each). They do 90~180 attack, and the 50% crit will kill the clones instantly in one hit if you use Final Hit. The remaining time of the skill, on top of Hydra Transmutation, should drop the doppleganger's HP low enough for you to use magic and kill it before more clones spawn.
- If you get the doppleganger to chase you out of the middle circle, the clones won't attack you.
- Alchemy has another skill called Raincast that will make things drop aggro until you hit them. You can use it if you get overwhelmed. It works if you use it before enemies spawn as well, so you can preemptively cast it before clones are summoned.
- Divine Link has immunity frames in it. It should be right as you cast it(passing the orb to your pet, not merely loaded the skill) until the orbs touch. A well-timed Link can negate a lot of damage.
If this doesn't work, you may need one of three things
1) continue ranking Hydra Transmutation so it's more effective and your magic will do more damage
2) rank some more Combat or Fighter skills for an extra 1-200 ST so Final Hit is more useful
3) continue ranking Raincast so it lasts longer and gives you more time to setup your attacks or recover from a mistake
This was really frustrating for sure.... It'll take some time. If you haven't already, I would seriously give it like, a weeks break and try again after waiting. That's how I got passed the giant thing you have to drop the columns on, too. Good luck, and I wish you the best!
Stats will get you farther than just having the skills, so you may need to take a break from this mission to increase your INT and STR. Especially to get any new skills you're using to r1(you can nitpick what skills to rank for those stats here -> https://wiki.mabinogiworld.com/view/Stats_and_Skills )
And for all its worth, don't AP train skills. When I did G21 at 2.9k, I had nearly 1000 DEX and close to 1300 when linked. 1AP = 200k roughly. You should only AP train when the gold you'd save is far more than the amount you would have spent manually training it.
Continue investing into alchemy. There was a player that killed the doppleganger with Hydra Transmutation alone(he had a master title for it equipped), which is why I think if you got hydra to r1 and used magic you'll be good. Spinning Uppercut(fighter skill) lowers defense as well, which makes the Firebolt and Final Hit combo really strong.
You may need to do some Shadow Wizard runs and invest in cheap gear with slightly higher attack then you currently have. While you can't get a better wand, you could get a better Cylinder or swords. You don't need to go crazy and get anything over 1m, though, as you just need the base damage. Everything else is icing on the cake.
Magic doesn't wound, so it's not the easiest to rely only on that, as you give the doppleganger the ability to regen his whole hp bar. It'll only work by itself if you have crazy amounts of damage from max INT and really, really good gear.
But if you used Final Hit on top of Spinning Uppercut, it should do more than enough wound damage(still, I'd suggest at least 800 STR to get better crit damage, which will make larger wounds). I think you have the damage if you play your cards right, just the doppleganger is healing a huge chunk of what you're dishing out.
If you don't have any grandmaster talents, I'd suggest going after them now in anything you have a master talent in. It's free to get the seals, you get a decent amount of gold from some of the missions, and the master talents give you extra stats. Can take 7-20 days to get a grandmaster depending on how many quests you do in a day, more if you skip any day. If you're still on this by the time you get the grandmaster, that should be the boost you need to complete it. Would extra suggest grandmaster for magic, alchemy and warrior, though any life talents are still good too if they give INT and STR.
There's a lot of Pet Rebirth Potions going around for around 100k, varying every day. You might have gotten one from the Puck spins. Since you're training skills anyways, whenever you hit level 60 go ahead and train your pet in Nowhere to Run. Be sure to use Divine Link during it. Combat x2 potion (the 10min are 25k each) + Baltane Mission Crystal(Shaun sells them) can get you to level 150 in 15-20minutes. If you can get your pet to at least level 120, Divine Link with that pet will give you even more stats and help you in the mission much more. You'll want to get the pet to 120+ before it's Age 3 for the most STR, I believe.
TLDR; If you get STR to 800+ and INT over 1k, you should be solid. You've got the skills you need, just finish ranking them then get your stats better so the skills are more effective.
