The item locks to your character?

Can you use a trade unlock potion on it after

Will really decide on whether or not I want get one or not

    You can remove the 'skin' from the weapon.

    Weapon shop sell a scroll for that.

    I'd want to keep the skin though
    I like pet storing items though

    Or potentially increase the value of an item by skinning it

    It doesn't personalise the item (eg. charactername only item), it makes the item untradeable in general.
    So I doubt a trade unlock potion would allow you to trade a skinned item, because it would only unlock the personalise effect.

    You're better off selling the item and the scroll on the side
