New crops and crop fields for Harvesting.

Currently, we only have Corn, Wheat, and Barley. It'd be nice if we had more kinds of crops to make more use of the Harvesting skill.

Rice - Already exists as an ingredient, so we should have rice paddies that we can harvest it from.

Rye - To complete the "wheat tribe", alongside wheat and barley.

Oats - For cooking and maybe feeding pets.

Oil seeds - Things like mustard, safflower and sunflower seeds.

Fiberous flowers - Things like hemp and flax, which produce fibers that can be made into thread via a Spinning Wheel.

Sugar cane - Found around Cor, and can be milled for Cane Juice that can be dried via heat source into Sugar.


While I'm at it, some new crops for the Hoeing skill wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Shallow

Peanuts - Like Rice, they already exist as an ingredient.

Chickpeas - Grown around Filia.

Deep

Carrots - Again, something that already in the game.

Turnips and parsnips - Grown around Vales.

(Feel free to add more to the list.)

    Most strains of rice would need to be grown in a wet and warm area. The only current logical area suitable for rice paddies are in Iria.

    Rye is more commonly found in colder northern climates. The question would be where to place them. Perhaps in alcohol loving Vales? Too much snow though.

    Oats are preferable in cooler and wet zones, which would require the expansion of Tir's agriculture.

    Oil seeds and spices, I think would need an increase in recipes and usages.

    I rather first add already existing crops sold in store (and also cultivated not for personal consumption)
    Strawberry, Tomato, Eggplant, Cabbage, Pumpkin. The crops we see grown in Tail farmland and homesteads.
    For strawberry, also add blueberry. Whether via cultivation or punching bushes and shrubs.

    Carrots, Onions, Garlic, Celery, and Leek are found in vegetable patches and available to forage in the wild.

    Add olives and olive trees, because olive oil is the sole cooking oil.

    Add button mushrooms and white truffles to forageable mushroom list.

    Add lemon, orange, plum (green plums and almond) and nut trees, chestnut, pecan and walnut . Punching or gather.

    Peanuts, sweet potatoes, Mung Beans should be available in potato fields where beans are also found.

    Gathering from Blago grape vines gives a chance to drop regular grapes

    Add herb patches for basil and thyme. Add more herbs like mint, rosemary, sage etc.

    Punching trees gives a chance to drop pine nut, juniper, camellia.

    Pineapples forageable in tropical areas.

    Add pepper bushes for spicy pepper and bell pepper (add other peppers to make spice blends, red pepper powder/curry powder)

    Other crafts. Ferment and salt beans to make soy sauce. Ferment grains to make malt.

    For flowers, perhaps make more usage of gathering flowers in Emain. More type of crop/ingredient drops, recipes for both crafting materials and cooking.

    I definitely want to see more in the way of fields, and actually have them, you know, give us crops to use or cook or w/e too!

    I mean why even have a farming tab in the homestead building menu if you only have the one field to buy? Might as well lump them into the decoration tab if they don't do something like that.

    A better excuse to put them in production tab (or maybe keep them in their own tab) could be to just make homestead farms produce certain crops that you're able to use, and make them upgradable the same way as pet houses? I think that'd be a really important distinction that the two ideas go together, as well, becauuuuuuuse...
    -if the upgrades just get you more kon, then it's useless at a certain homestead rank.
    -if you get some amount of crops per field with no way to increase that production (like with homestead herbs and etc.) then it's not very useful either, especially with how uncommon some of the seed drops can be - you'd want to have a way to increase the output beyond just how long it takes to grow.

    Put together, you can start getting a lot of crafting and cooking materials if you dedicate yourself to working towards the upgrades.

    Other thought: maybe better fields produce better crops, and do something like increase the quality of the things you can make with them? That'd be neat. I'd definitely wanna make five-star popcorn with five-star homegrown corn. :P

    Pretty much! The best bit about the idea is that you wouldn't even need to waste a ton of homestead space on new gathering patches; you'd instead just need to plant the appropriate seed, wait for it to grow, then harvest when ready - ideally with a comparable growth rate to the existing homestead crop growth times.

    Alternatively, if high-quality cooking/crafting seems a little underwhelming on its own... it could be that they normally produce standard-quality ingredients, at a faster or slower growth rate depending on your farm's upgrade level. But there's a very low chance of producing a high-quality version of that ingredient - this chance also scales with the farm's upgrade level. Instead of boosting the chance of creating higher-quality dishes, it does a percentage buff to the usual effects of whatever dish you put it in (e.g., +20%, +5%, etc?)

    Alternatively or additionally there could be another, even rarer kind of high-quality ingredient that adds an additional stat or effect to a dish normal... This extra bit of the idea is like a 'food reforge', to put it simply.

    Both of these might be a little overpowered depending on the dish, so it would be best to have a limit of 1 high-quality ingredient per dish at maximum, or have different buff % rates/effect roll tables depending on the ingredient in question...

    aaAAAA I got a little carried away. lol
    But yeah, the thought of farming your own ingredients and even getting some extra oomph out of the farms through those ingredients is a really fun idea to think about - way more cool than just generating kon from them. :)

    It's fine to be a little carried away. Always good to keep the mind flowing with ideas. I agree that higher grade ingredients should definitely help in producing higher grade final items. For food, it makes sense that there should be better stat bonuses as a result of higher grade ingredients producing higher grade dishes.

    I think, the same could be applied to other mats and craftable items. A well made item from higher grade materials would have maybe more durability and other stats.
