So, the gold boxes are useless now too?

    They are now consumable items so if you use the Lorna's Goldbox or Pan's Goldbox each one will increase the maximum gold you can carry by 50k. If you use Lorna's Special Gold Coin Box or Pan's Special Gold Coin Box it will increase the maximum gold you can carry by 100k for box you consume.

    Fun fact: It will take 1960 gold boxes to max out the 100 million gold limit.
    At current market prices it will cost 980,000,000 gold to do that. [lol]

    Anyone else invest 10m into boxes the day before the update with the thought that they would skyrocket in value since becoming consumable means the supply would drop?

    And instead they plummeted to 1/3 of the price you bought them at because it turns out nobody really wants boxes when they have 2m storage without them?

    Wait so just having them isn't enough? You have to 'use it and lose it' if youse choose it?

    Yes. If you like their appearance, you can choose to keep them and clog up your inventory space. Or, if you'd rather, you can consume them to increase your individual character gold storage.
