Over the past four years of playing Mabinogi, a wonderfully enjoyable experience, I have noticed one thing I'd like added to the game.
It is a very minor detail, but I am certain others within this community will agree with me when I suggest this.
The Wedding Update was a much warmly welcomed change to the game and community back in 2008, but I'd like to give a proposal.
(ha wedding puns, bare with me XD)
The typical wedding procedure is as follows:
1. Go to the wedding helper with your spouse-to-be and click Engage.
2. Pay 5,000 gold, enter the person's name and then a Wedding Proposal.
3. Wait for your partner to accept or deny.
4.
a. If denied, you can either discuss with the person or just not get married.
b. If accepted, you get an engagement ring and move on to step 5.

The engagement is completed when your partner accepts the proposal whereupon an engagement ring is given. You can engrave a wedding message on the engagement ring, which will be used during the wedding.
If you wish to change the wedding message, you can do so by speaking with the Wedding Helper before your wedding.
* You can enter the wedding message by speaking with the [Wedding Helper] and selecting [Input Wedding Msg]. The wedding messages will be swapped when you exchange rings with your partner during the wedding ceremony.
I will stop myself here, because the wedding message is where I wish to implement my idea.
Everyone knows how the rest goes, you make invites, and invite some friends (or not) and go on with the wedding, do the lovey dovey vows, and now you two are married and have the beautiful married title, and can now make a wonderful family with your own family name.
But what does one typically do when they are surprise proposed to? They are in shock. They will likely be very very very happy, in shock, and probably not prepared to come up with a serious and loving wedding message for their spouse/partner. But what is this? Even directly after the wedding ceremony, you cannot input a wedding message.
(* If you are a part of a couple in Mabinogi that is simply platonic, I believe you can still benefit from this idea by coming up with allot of beautiful/funny and different wedding messages for each other throughout the years you are together, and I am certain serious couples could do the same!)
My idea is that even after the wedding, you can still put the wedding message onto the engagement ring. So that you can take the time and think about the wedding message and not feel in a rush to just write whatever comes to mind. This will save allot of people the painful thought of divorcing and marrying the person again just so they can get that perfect and sentimental wedding message implemented on the ring, but lose the original date of marriage.
For most people, that is not a big deal. But for me and my husband roadkiller3, well... He doesn't want to lose the system info that we married back in 2014. And I agree with him. Why can't there just be an option to engrave the ring, long after the wedding has been long over with and is now a memory of the past, like the way they do in reality?
( *If you are someone who does not care either way, I think you could still agree to this being more realistic like the way it is in real life. There are many cases where the wedding rings are not engraved before the wedding simply because of cost, and are instead engraved years later. So why not add the feature to Mabinogi? And yes, wedding message is the equivalent to an engravement for a wedding ring.)
So, in order to keep things fair, this is what I came up with.
The wedding message pop-up window will still show up when you get engaged, and that will be the free wedding message option. Since it is default and of the original system sequence, adding a charge here would be unnecessary.
However, if you wish to do the wedding message anytime after the first week of engagement, it will cost you.
So something like this:
1. Wedding message right when proposed to: Free
2. First week after marriage wedding message: Free
3. Wedding message after wedding:
1st time - 10,000 gold
2nd time - 15,000 gold
3rd time - 30,000 gold
4th time - 40,000 gold
Every other time after the 4th time... 40,000 gold
This will ensure that marriages from 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014... Or however old your marriage may be... Do not need to face the painful decision of:
"Should we get married and get a wedding message on the ring but now the system info says a more recent year? Or should we just deal with the fact that our rings have no wedding message even thou we want to engrave it?"
This may seem like a couple's squaddle, but I'm sure people will find this useful. The charge is added in to prevent people from using wedding messages as little daily quotes or anything like that... But that is bound to happen anyways since 40,000 is a low amount of gold.
