I feel like raising a lot of prices for pre-existing NPCs and pre-existing prices is a bit much, especially since there ARE new players that need things to be priced cheaply (or players like me that spend all their gold on clothes and materials already!)
I feel like they're trying to make the Moonlight Island a gold sink, though. A lot of stuff is pretty pricy compared to other systems and NPCs in the game, either in terms of materials or resetting skills when needed for leveling it up. Just depends on the person using those systems, I think?
