Just wanted to throw in my voice supporting an expansion of the arachnophobia protections.
In general I think a setting in the interface would be better than the item in our inventory.
In addition its unfortunate that it doesn't add protection over the laghodessa, pet spiders, or other spider like entities. What can trigger the phobia can vary from person to person but generally the visible features that bother it will be: the multiple eyes, the multiple and shape of legs, the body proportions, the movement. I think making the teddy bears is a great way to make sure none of those features are present. To me it doesn't read as an insult, this game is known for being very kitschy and cute after all and I appreciate that it removes ALL potential spider traits.
As for people who don't get it, it sucks but unfortunately most online spaces are rife with people intent on misunderstanding and disrespecting you. Advocate for your peace and space from them and focus your energy on informing and requesting the features we deserve from the dev team .
