Vet rewards definitely could use some improvement. I was hoping to enter the dungeons and experience some death. Like even without maxed dampen shock and techs, the mobs barely do anything in most dungeons. The step 7 stones are kind of a joke considering nobody's going to use them on their gear. The new gems are way too rare and the old gems are random sizes. I've run at least a couple dozen runs so far and seen nothing but gems drop (usually with full parties, no less than 2-3 people in a run).
IMO magic is still somewhat underwhelming. But everyone's gonna ego-magic hype because of that one KR person with super-ultra gear. Even a geared mage doesn't really compare to a geared close combat user and they usually just get in the way with knockback and aggro. It takes skill to be a mage that doesn't subtract from clear times, in a party. Solo is another story, to a degree but I'd wager close combat and other talent hybrids are more efficient for pretty much anything.
@Habimaru
I literally mean damage sponge, not just aggro. The thing has stupid high HP/Def/Prot. Sure, it's magic def/prot aren't great but leveling it up does raise a few of its stats which buff that a little. Bottom line: D link makes a huge difference. You wanted stat boosts and divine link delivers. I've had my pet duel low-mid tier players and their divine linked pets on auto attack and they can't even damage it and end up losing while I eat popcorn lol
Definitely look into divine link sub-skills too. They're game changers. Maxed out, your pet gains 70 more max, 58% passive defense (all types I believe), 5000% hp regen (all the time it's linked), 45% combat exp boost for you/it, and 3 self revives (per link).
With regards to pet AI's, I typically just use a blank AI so that it doesn't react to any incoming attacks or skills. If I need it to stay away from me during a situation (due to splash) I just use sit/call commands. I'll probably fiddle with one moreso after the update (since having the pet actually attack will be useful due to no knockback).
I'll take a few screenshots but I'm only on my human atm which has slightly lower DL subskills (only really relevant for some max/min damage and like 9 def/prot or something)

Divine link
Also shine of eweca is massively beneficial at 10k/r1
Keep in mind that so far this is a China-only update with no announcements officially linking anything there to Korea. Somewhat doubting we'll get anything in there. KR->NA is usually how updates are dictated, regional content usually stays in that region.
Elves can use hide. Giants can't use play dead. Elves>Humans>Giants favorism in mabinogi confirmed. Elves have better stats for magic. Giants have worst stats for magic. Magic favorism confirmed? Mage elf meta. Hmm.
